I came to your site by way of a Google search after I received a check from FedExp for $1520.00. No letter of explanation. I tracked down the company that the FedExp package came from and called. No one at the company by the name that was used on the package and the check was drawn from a college in a different state! After some discussion with the company they asked if I was selling anything on Craig's list. I was, an office set of furniture for 250.00. I knew it was this guy below, you can follow the conversation (I already had my suspicions about him and wasn't really buying it...he had no time to check out the furniture because of his work schedule and was going to have a moving company pick it up...I just went along to see how far he would go). I am also in the process of filing a complaint with FedExp against him.

Just to clear up a couple of things, you are not going to be responsible for the shipment, what I said however was the moving fee will be included with your payment and will in no way affect your 250bucks plus the $30. The movers will only contact you and come for the pick-up at your location after you have your payment and at your preferable time.

Thanks for your reply; to be clear I'm okay with the price and I'm ready for the purchase plus I'm prepared to add another 30$ so as to have it reserved in my favor. My method of payment will be by Check and it will be sent thru FedEx 1-2days delivery. The responsibility of the pick-up rest with me (pickers will come to your location after payment is received), and in addition the movers/pick up money will be added to your asking price so as to avoid needless delay which will then enable the movers to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location in a timely fashion after the check is been cashed as I have other properties to be moved alongside yours. I had like to come in person to assess what I’m about to put my money on but my work schedule won’t let me; just won't fit in my schedule, however, more pictures will be deeply appreciated. Kindly get back to me with your full name and address you want me to make the payment out to, your cell or land line will be appreciated too (I’ll call you as soon as I can). Many thanks

THIS GUY IS SUCH A SCAMMER!!!
Same guy contacted me and i recieved a check of $920 from him. I took it to the check cashing store and was told the account has been closed. So lucky I didn't put it to my personal account and go along. If so, I would have lost $520 to this guy. I still keep his check and all the evidence and also reported to the police.
Thanks for posting this. I received an almost exact reply on a piece of furniture and thought it a scam.
I googled "craigslist scam jon c" and turned up your blog.
While selling some furniture on Craigslist, I received the following from a "Jon Carnegie", using the email address "goodluckme1@gmail.com":
Hi,
I was going through the home furniture’s section on craigslist and came across yours for sale; I’m trying to add a few things to my new home so I had like to know if your furniture is still up for grab. Many thanks
Jon
When I replied that the items were still available, I received this:

Something didn't seem right, so I Googled his email address and turned up a surprising number of hits. Apparently this is one very active sociopath.
I've been in talks with this guy for a few weeks and felt it was fishy from the start.

This exact scam just happened to me and unfortunately I transferred $1,451 to this scum bag. The guys email was ddmm67@gmail.com and his name was David. I have filed a report with the police department and Bank of America. Somehow this guy needs to be stopped.
Be aware that this scammer also uses the email address jonnycannne@gmail.com, also under the name Jon Carnegie. The content of his emails was exactly what was described here. Thank you for posting this to confirm my suspicions!!
I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A JON CARNEGIE SCAM! Thank you for posting all these! Trying to figure out how to turn the tables and bust him. Supposedly I am to pay the movers out of the extra money he gives me. The Nigerian prince would be proud. I bet the person doing the scam is actually one of the 'movers' coming to pick up the table. What an ass and its petty con so I'm sure anyone would really care.
I meant 'I'm sure no one would really care'
Good Lord! This guy is out of control! I posted my furniture a few days ago and heard from him right away. Of course, I thought he was legit. Long story short, Jon had me in his grips for almost 2 days! I realized what had happened and was able to stop the payment on the Walmart MoneyGram.
When I texted 'Jon' and told him I knew what he did, he responded by telling me how "offended" he was of being accused.
I suspect there are more than just one 'Jon'? Is there a team of them?
He used the email address, jonnycannne@gmail.com.

Thanks for the swift response, Just so you know I'm okay with the price/condition as it is on the Ad, am ready for its purchase, as i know there might be other potential buyers so am willing to add extra $30 so that you can keep it in my favor. My form of payment will be by mailing you Check via FedEx 2days delivery.

Best Regards.
Obiously I google the email and Thanks god I found this blog, thanks tou guys!
Wow. So here I am holding an $1100 check from this same guy who wants to buy my $300 Craig's List item. So is this how the scam works?
People put the check into their personal account, it never clears, they don't know it never clears, then they pay the "mover" $500 or so take away the item? Is that it?
I'm getting the exact same emails as these sent to me. And I assume that this check is useless!!
This is so irritating. I was suspicious from the outset. No one at CList behaves like this. And who sends you $1100 for a $300 item?
I'm tempted to go to the bank just to prove it is a useless check. Ugh.
Last post: I talked to my local Chase Bank manager and even his wife fell for one of these. Here is how it works.
You deposit the check. It clears. But any bank can withdraw the funding for the check after a week or so. You think the "check cleared" and you have the money. But then the "other bank" from the scammer contacts your bank and declares the check useless. Your bank then withdraws the cash from your account. Who knew that a "cleared" check could be killed a week later?
He says that the emails starting coming to you daily after this. And they start nice and then get mean.
Chase wants to see the check since they have a registry of banks and account numbers that have been used like this. And they permanently flag it for all the tellers nationwide.
I wish I knew this before...I just got scammed by him too, same address, but different email: jonnycannne@gmail.com
What can I do at this point?
I feel so stupid =[
