This is a good one. They most likely want your information for identity theft. You would be giving them a check that also has your bank account number. Usually it's the other way around where they are interested in your property, will send a check in the amount posted but "accidentally" send a check that it a few thousand dollars more with an excuse.

These scams are definitely becoming a major issue. As a landlord I always run a background check using TVS . I always show the tenant the apartment before hand then go over the lease. I would never try to rent to a person from out of country without someone there to take care of the property for me. And I would never request payment from western union.
