Just recieved one of these in Tallahasse. $2500 check for $300 dollar pair of speakers. I have to send the shipper the difference -$100 for my trouble. Only difference is he used USPS to send the check. But his/her email said UPS just like you post.

Just got one from this douche nozzle this morning. First email he was a she, then magically turned into "Michael" I gave him a good ripping and then reported him to the Internet Crime Complaint Center. Always let them know they are getting reported and how weak their scam is.

Just happend to me too...only I gave my address before I realized it was a scam. I then replied that I knew it was a scam and had reported them to the fraud department, called the police and that any packages would not be accepted and returned to shipper. Should I be ok? Don't really understand how the scam works.

Yesterday, 8/26/12 at 8:22AM, I received an email from willianfdm@gmail.com stating, "Still available?" Today at 2:38PM, I replied that the item was still available. But, after sending that email I noticed that the reply-to address was different, “king.kind011@gmail.com” with the name “Micheal Roland” associated with it. At 2:50PM I received the identical (most likely automated) email that people on this forum/ blog had received from “king.kind011@gmail.com” alias, “Micheal Roland”
I had not yet discovered this forum/ blog but still figured that this was 99.99% most likely a scam. But, not wanting to be rude to someone who may in fact be a disabled person trying to buy merchandise on Craigslist, I decided to email “him” back at 3:17PM; However, I did so WITHOUT including ANY of my personal information as per the email instructions. Instead, I asked for the same personal information from “him” & also asked for a minimum of two references to verify “his” identity.
Now that I have discovered these postings, I have reported the same account to the authorities, gmail and to Craigslist.
**I have only including such a detailed account of this incident in hopes it may help others deal with and recognize scams/ scammers. And yes, I forgot to follow one of my own criteria, as in the reply-to address as the first red flag that this is a scam.
Here are a few tips I have been taught to follow:
1. ALWAYS check to make sure the reply-to address is the same as the original address.
2. NEVER give your information to someone who does not offer theirs but requests all of yours, no matter what reason they claim to “need” or want it.
3. ALWAYS be weary of someone who will pick up, arrange to pick up your merchandise, and are willing to send any form of payment other than cash prior to inspecting your merchandise or asking for more information about it.

Just received this identical scam.
Sent back a clarification question just to be sure. Same email came back addressed michaelrolandltd@gmail.com
I received the same email, and I received a check via USPS for $2100 for a $40 Bread Machine. Did not fall for it. The first tip was that he couldn't even spell the word "Michael" correctly. Plan to file with all of the fraud groups listed on this blog.
Just got one of those, too. Granted, the e-mail looked like a scam (who the heck answers to Craigslist ads like that?), but it was good to see a list for scammers. He wants to buy our fridge. Heh.

Why would somebody send money to anybody that they don't know thinking that they are honest. I would like to think that i am an honest person, but we live in an un-honest world. Anybody caught up with this A hole yet? When they reply back is this item still available most of the time it is a scam. If you hit reply and the email address magically changes from what was in your inbox you have hit the scam jackpot. Just go back to your inbox email and hit the scam link from CL at the bottom. Got two of them tonight on one item I had for sale on CL. There is a hot place waiting for these folks. Probably overseas to avoid FBI here. Thanks for your site. Received the same email from this person: jinnyfqv@gmail.com and when I hit reply the email address was: ernspeaine@gmail.com. I therefore googled his name and came accross this blogger. Good thing I did my research. I gave him a good rip for his scam...Glad we're all making this public knowledge.

Got one in medford oregon from a Dphia Dale as well. I knew it was a scam however and offered no address. They get you to cash the check, and send them back the funds to cover whatever, then the check defaults and you are overdrafted by thousands of dollars. This happened to my brother and he is still paying for it today. DONT GET SCAMMED IN PERSON CASH DEALS ONLY!!!!

Needless to say, I'm reporting it.
I'm so glad I found this. I received the same initial email from "her". I didn't think anything about it at first and sent my address information. I started thinking about it, and found the link on craigslist about scams. His/her scam was fairly close to the ones they described.
So...I wrote "her" back and said that I didn't feel comfortable with the cashiers check idea. I told her that if she is going to the bank with cash in hand to get a cashiers check, then she can obviously just hand over some cash in person. If she still wanted the item, I would accept cash only.
Then I got another email saying that the cashiers check that she is sending me is now going to be $100 for a $30 item. I told her that I was reporting the scam and to go away.
1 week later I receive a random check for $1600. Part of me knew it had to be from her/him. The envelope says Micheal Roland, but the check says International Institute of Islamic Thought. Also, the check number is only 574. Too many red flags. Then I found this site. Thank YOU! But damn, that check looked nice. I hate it when people prey on innocent people.
