Since making my first post on www.pr-me.blogspot.com about my effort to fight the Craigslist Furniture Scammer I've received a new comment almost every day from a new person who's being scammed. You can see those entries at my other blog.
Since I was getting so many notes, I thought it would be best to create this, a blog dedicated to fighting the scammer (and to re-orient my other blog back to energy communications).
So herewith I will start blogging the notes and emails I receive from poor, jipped folks out there in the hopes that more people will do some internet searches before falling for the scam.
This Blog is dedicated to listing information about Craigslist scam attempts. It's my hope that people will Google parts of the emails they receive from scammers and turn up this site, to see other similar scams that have been tried. Post your experiences in the comments sections. You can also email JoeyGimenez@gmail.com and I will post them without your name. ON YOUR WAY OFF THE SITE, PLEASE CLICK ON AN AD TO SUPPORT MY TIME SAVING PEOPLE FROM THESE HIDEOUS SCAMMERS! THANK YOU!

In response to my furniture ad placed earlier this week, I got the following FINAL e-mail before I realized something was not right:
I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying it from you. I would love to come and check it myself but I just got married and am presently on an honeymoon trip to Hawaii with my wife. I would love a surprise change of furniture in our home on our return. Pls do withdraw , the listing from Web as i don't mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated. I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which my secretary will mail across to you. I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of my mover. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has been cashed. Pls I will need both your full name and physical address along with your phone number to issue out the payment.
I await your response.
Thank You,
Tony.
It was from tony coll- tonycoll02@gmail.com
So everyone keep your eyes open. I got another one from someone named Gary but I told him I sold the item. Same kind of email though, saying he would send his "shipper" with a cashier's check. Oh, and he was also looking for a Plasma TV.

I got hit by this guy today; fortunately they used the same goofy signoff and made it easy to spot.
New address for the scammer: Mark James <markjam01@gmail.com>
Thanks for putting this stuff up!
I just got the same thing from a Dray Bank! I'm selling antiques and got a few of the same emails like this from different email addresses, as my listings are up seperately! Are they giving fake Cashiers checks or something? Not sure what the exact scam is?

I received the same email from this person today regarding a furniture post. I guess he's still at it.
Just got the same from Phil Beecher (phbeecher@gmail.com). This sounds definitely fishy ...
fell for the phbeecher@gmail .com on craigslist what can he get from knowing my adress and name?
I posted an ad for a desk today and got two different ones.
What I don't understand is, what's the angle here? I know the "I'll send you a money order for too much money and you can give me the excess" scam. I know the "give me your bank account number" scam. This one? Is there really a black market in furniture? I've been trying to unload this desk for ages to no avail.
From wilsonbrain52@gmail.com:
Hi there,
Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant purchase, so please and please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist, i dont mind adding an extra $50.00 for you to take the advert down from craigslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item. I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check, and it will be over night payment due to the distance. You dont need to bother yourself with the shipment ok,i will do take care of that. So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1. Your full name
2. Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
3. Your Phone Number.
Once again, I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping...i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check. Thanks . Wilson

in response to an add I placed to sell a BMW cwilliamscole1000@gmail responded, first to see if the car was still available and in good condition. Second e-mail was this:

Do people really fall for this stuff?
William Peron, aka dr.billy101@gmail.com, is still active. His first email was innocuous enough, is the item still available. I foolishly sent him my cell number, though there's not much he can do with that. But his response raised all the red flags, including requesting my "postal code" (in the U.S.) and other info so he could send a certified check. A quick Google search brought up this page and lo and behold, the first name I saw was William Peron. Thanks!
Hello got a hit from this person William Perron, I just don't get it what is he trying to use the information for?
His email got to me just hours after I posted my chair for sale.
He said: Thank you for the reply to my mail inquiry am quite satisfied with the condition .Am very much interested and i would like to make an outright purchase, so i will appreciate it if you can withdraw the advert from the web.Actually am a bad stammerer I would have call you, I will be paying with a certified check.Furthermore my mover will be coming over for the pick up..as i might not be available for the pick up myself but am OK with the information from the ad.I will need the following information details to make payment arrangement 1,Your full name to be on the Payment.2 ,Your postal address.3,Your phone number both land and mobile.4,Your postal code.????
I will really appreciate it buying this item from you.So you get me the required information for your payment to be issued asap.
Thank you.
Watch out he is a strage one.
Word for word the same email response. "Thank you for the reply to my mail inquiry am quite satisfied with the condition ..." and the same scenario, first the "still available?" email from billye502@gmail and then the above from billye103@gmail
Thanks for this blog ... while the alarms were going off we were still going to try a second email ... not now.
Hi fellow scammees!
I got exactly the same thing over the weekend, and today (after I gave him my name, address and phone) I received this:
Hello Nancy,
How are you doing? I want you to understand that the deal is on as my secretary as posted the payment already, but there was a slight error i guess we can handle with care, instead of the actual amount, she made out the check for $9500 she claimed that was what i requested but she didn't get that straight. So once you have the check please cash it and deduct the money for your goods plus $100 that for your running around expenses. The excess fund should please be sent to my mover via western union, this fund will be use in offsetting the cost of the shipment he as undertaken for me recently.
**Please email at once to let me know that i can trust to have the excess funds sent to my mover**
I responded:
Hello William,
I am not comfortable with this error. I cannot to be involved in your mover's payment. It would be easier if you simply stopped the check and issued a new one for the correct amount.
Thanks,
nancy
Nothing back yet (hopefully never).
Who knows an effective way to have the proper authorities go after this creep?

He's still at it.. under a different name.

I received an email from Williams Perron with all of the same things listed here. I responded back to him and said that I would wait for another buyer because he is demanding too much to be a real person.
I had a similar situation with Craigslist a few years ago when I was living in NYC. I applied for a job to do data entry and when I got a reply they said that job was no longer available but if I was interested in an accounting position with them to respond. When I responded they gave me information that sounded more like money laundering. The email included a website so I sent the email over to the fraud dept. at NYPD. Two detectives ended up visiting me to question me about it because the website was started by a guy who was out on parole for drug smuggling.
If any of you have fallen victim to a scam you can contact the fraud department of your local police department. They can direct you from there.

chrisbond03@gmail.com and chrisbond2000@gmail.com are the two e-mail addresses used by a scammer who apparently hopes I'm clueless. I got an e-mail identical to many of those posted here.
Thanks for the blog! I hope it does some good. As for me, my personal cause is shutting down the acai berry scam "blogs".
Same scam for an add I recently posted for furniture...from Caesar Bakers cbakers101@gmail.com
i got a message from cbakers101 last night and knew something was fishy. isnt there a way to block them?
Here's one I just received, and I get a shitload of 'em!
Thank you very much for the response, Anyways, I'll be mailing a check via my Bank to you due to my job transfer and shortness of time. However, to ease the pick up, I'll be engaging the services of a mover to do that after the check has been cashed. I'll need this details below to mail out the payment to you asap...
• The Full name on the Check
• Mailing address be it residential or office
• Cell phone
• Final Price of the item
I'll appreciate it if the item is kept for me. Thank you for the understanding.
Regards,
Rebbecca..
They usually start off with an inquiry, "is the item still available. If you answer affirmatively, they send you some goofy response like the one above from "Rebbeccah, offering to buy whatever you're selling, sight unseen. That should be a dead giveaway to anyone! Interestingly, these messages almost always seem to have syntax and grammatical errors, as someone might write who is unfamiliar with the spoken language.
Probably Nigerians, but who knows?
I've thought about sending them responses with the address of the local jail and phony names and such, but without a front yourself, that could get dangerous.
Look out for a cwilliamscole1000@gmail.com !!! Same scam as the others involving his secretary, moving truck, address... any way thanks to all you bloggers for the info!
It's an obvious scam when they don't even read the add on craiglist. I posted an item for sale, with clear direction on how I wish to be paid. This email address gives a big story about how he's going out of town to Hawaii, and his secretary will give me 50.00 to hold it. I had asked for cash or payment through PayPal, and he completely ignored that idea.
This is the email: cwilliamscole1000@gmail.com

You'll need to deduct the transfer charges from the funds.I will be expecting the transfer details ASAP. you are to get back to me with the MTCN control number which is the 10 digit number you are given after the transfer and the actual amount sent..I await your response.
Regards,
Caesar.
After all this, my response was:
The office received a UPS package addressed to me today at the office, but I was not there unfortunately to open it. I will get it tomorrow. Something does not seem right about this whole deal, and I am uncomfortable. Either you mail a $400 cashiers check to the office address, or the deal is off. I will simply rip up whatever check you sent me. However, if you agree to send me the $400 cashier’s check for the Dining Room Table you have mentioned that you would like to purchase, I will mail you back the check that was incorrect. There is no negotiation on this going further. Yes or no? If I do not hear back from you by 5pm Central time tomorrow, the deal is off.
SO...
I have this check...has anyone tried cashing it? What happens at that point? Is it a fradulent check? Should I do something with this?
PLEASE HELP ME. what if i gave someone on craiglist my name and address.. would that do any harm??
--they dont have my phone number or anything. they ask for my name and address so they can put it on the check

would love a surprise change of furniture in our home on our
return.Pls do withdraw the advert from craigslists as i dont mind
adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item
is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated.
I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which my

Thanks

I am so glad I did a search, just pasted the email into google and got a TON of hits. Though I don't get what the scam is. Is the cashiers check going to bounce after they pick up the furniture? Surely no one gives them the furniture without getting payment? I am going to respond, sorry, Cash only! Just to mess with him. ;)
we just received the same email message from dr. walter. we did not catch it initially, so this is what he has to say after his initial inquiry...
Hello,
How are you doing today ? I want you to understand that the deal is on
as my secretary has
posted the payment already.
She included the moving fee with your payment. So, instead of the
actual amount of
$350, she made out the check for $2,350. This was due to accumulated unpaid
transactions undertaken by the mover in the past weeks and they said
they can't come and
pick this up if I don't pay them all together.
So once you have the check,i want you to cash it and deduct the money for your
goods plus the extra $50 for taking the add down
The remaining fund should please be sent to my mover via
western union money transfer so that he can come for the pick up immediately.
**Please email at once to let me know that I can trust you to have the
money sent to
my mover**.
dr.walter
he further sent the instructions to western unions funds to his movers (as some of you have already posted).
we DID receive a check today via UPS (which obvioulsy looks fake) with the name of the New York State Bar Association as the issuer ... I cant help but wonder if the New York State Bar knows about this?
has anyone gone any further with this guy? tried to cash the checks? reported him to the authorities? has anyone had anything negative happen as a result of sharing their address?
I went through the whole scam process with 'Phil Beecher' including taking the bogus check to my bank to confirm its illegitimacy, then calling the FTC and e-mailing all correspondence to them, and finally meeting with the local county Sheriff and surrendering the check and UPS envelope it came in.
I just got the honeymoon scam from my furniture post on Craigslist.

While I was posting the previous blog I had another scammer leave this. What is interesting, I listed the item on Craigslist 4am PST, these two email came in five minutes later. I responded quickly, and the follow ups came back 10 hours later. Probably coincides with times the Nigerians clock in/out at internet cafes.

I posted my furniture for sale on Craigslist two days ago. About nine hours later, I received a reply from "ronald shoemaker:"
"I would like to know if the posted item is still available and in good condition?"
My response shortly thereafter:
"It's available and in good condition."
A couple of hours later, I received a reply on the same email string from "Linda Lanvenda" (first red flag ... why did the name change on the SAME email string?)"Hello,
Saw your advert on craigslist and would want to make an immediate
purchase . I will like you to withdraw the advert from craigslist i
dont mind adding an extra $20 for you to take the advert down from
craigslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item.I
dont have time to come take a look. I will be paying via cashier's
check, and it will be over night payment .You don't need to bother your
self with the shippment ok,i will take care of that.So i will need you
to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing
of the check.
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
3.Your phone number.
i will have my mover come over as soon as you have the check
Have a great day ."
(Second red flag, they mention "cashiers check.")NOTE: Craigslist points it out on every email response you get from people:
"** CRAIGSLIST ADVISORY --- AVOID SCAMS BY DEALING LOCALLY** Avoid: wiring money, cross-border deals, work-at-home
** Beware: cashier checks, money orders, escrow, shipping
** More Info: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html"
(Third red flag, I googled the entire email response and it led me to this Web site.)This varies slightly from the other scams where they ask you to give excess cash to the movers or wire the money somewhere.
So, my guess is, the scam goes like this ... you give them your info, get a fraudulent cashier's check, cash it because it looks fairly legit, the stuff gets picked up, by the time the bank tracks you down because it's a fake check, your stuff is gone. Or something of the like.
It's obvious I'm not going to fall for it.
Beyond that, though, what can one do about it?
1. Send a complaint to Craigslist.(http://www.craigslist.org/about/help/abuse) 2. Call the police? But really, what can they do with the information you provide, given that it isn't against the law to make an offer on craigslist? I would assume the law isn't broken until the fraudulent check arrives. And then, I'm guessing that brings a big slew of no-nos with it, including mail fraud.
3. Post a comment on sites like this and hope that others will use the power of Google and Internet searches to find these types of entries.
I have a ring on craigs list right now and the sad part is Ive gotten 5 replies but all were hoaxes or the dang cash for gold places spam lol.
Here's my scam emails and their "replies". I always google the email addresses that reply so I never bothered replying back to these ppl once I saw em on sites like this!!
Thanks again !

Hi,
How are you doing today? I want you to understand that the deal is on as my secretary as posted the payment already which will be deliver to you this morning, but there was a slight error I guess we can handle with care, instead of the actual amount $200 for the item, she made out the check for $2000 she claimed that was what I requested but she didn't get that straight. So once you
have the check please cash it and deduct the money for your goods plus $50 that for your running around expenses. The excess fund should please be sent to my mover via western union, this fund will be use in offsetting the cost of the shipment he as undertaken for me recently.
**Please email at once to let me know that I can trust to have the excess funds sent to my mover**
Regards,
Dr.Walter.

bugger.
I posted a wedding gown on Craig's List and same as most here on this blog... Received a response pretty quickly from a REBBECCA SMITH (e-mail is rssmith544@gmail).com asking if it was still available. He/she offered to send me a certified check for over the amount which I would then forward the excess amount for her to purchase antiques. I immediately got a bad feeling about it because my boyfriend was close to being scammed not too long ago. Just wanted to add his/her name to the list of scammers. Beware!
Got a new one for everybody to watch out for:

it your self(1Z4206790146459200) by UPS courier, once you get it, , I
guess you know how to handle everything and please don't bother about
any other buyer for the Item but there was a little problem which I
guess we can handle with understanding when I came back i ask my
husband to know about the payment becourse there are some things i
bought,I got to know that there was a misinterpretation while sending
the check i bought a car according to what i told him he was suppose
to have send you a check of $200 for the Item but instead he sent a
check of (3500Dollars).for the car i bought and send your check of
$3500 to the car dealer It was a terrible mistake and the check is
already out for delivery to your location before I was alerted about
this he claimed that I said he should send you a check of $3500 but I
know very well i did told him to send just $200 but i guess he didn't
get it straight, so please I wouldn't like this to disturb our
transaction as the deal is still on and what will happen is that once
you get the check you should please take it to your bank and cash it
immediately. You then deduct a 100 dollars for all the trouble I have
put you through during the course of this transaction as well as for
your running.and please help me to the rest to the car seller.so that
my mover can come to your location to pick up the Item

I got the same thing and immediately recognized it for a scam, but I thought it'd be fun to play with him, so he's sent me the check. My plan is to deposit it in an account with no money in it that I was planning on closing anyway the account number he gets will be useless.
Definitely don't take it to the local branch of my bank to cash it, he says. Oh no! You must deposit it in yours, wait for it to clear, then wire the extra $3000 ! to the shipper. How fun. Just so I don't get busted

I received an email shortly after posting my sofa on Craigslist. It was sent by "Williams Perron" at billye105@gmail.com and the contents of the email was almost identical to the ones already posted here. I was only goofing around when I googled his name and I was shocked to find all of this info on this prolific scammer. I decided to see how far mr. scammer is willing to go to hit his jackpot, and here is what I emailed back to him:
Mr. Perron,
I would like to be able to sell you the item immediately, but I have come upon a problem. My sofa is currently sitting in storage, and the owners have told me that before I can get my property back I must pay the overdue storage fees. I do not currently have the funds to pay them, but I will be getting paid next week a rather large sum, seeing as how I will be getting my regular pay check plus an additional bonus for my performance. However, by next week it will be too late for me to sell the sofa as I will be moving and I will have to take the sofa with me. If you would like to purchase the item from me, it would be a huge favor if you would assist me in paying the sum of $100 to have the item released from storage. After that, I will gladly subtract the $100 from the original price of the item plus an additional $100 for your troubles and your kindness. If you find this agreeable then please let me know and we can go on from there.

Thanks for the blog; it saved me!
I am a Detective in Carlsbad New Mexico, and I have been investigating some of these crimes. Believe it or not, people fall for this stuff all the time, it's a Multi million dollar industry, most of those american dollars ending up in Nigeria, or Canada, although we have been getting some from the Ukraine. Along with the scams you have already been seeing, there are more, like a sudden call or email from a friend who s starnded or has been arrested somewhere outside the US (usually Canada or Mexico) and they need money wired to them right away, or people asking you to let them have merchandise shipped to you (which is typically bought with a stolen credit card number ) and then asking you to send it to them overseas, because the company they bought it from will charge them too much, or just wont do it at all. Most of the time, the victim has cashed the check, and was "allowed" to keep some of the money for themselves, or feels somehow criminally liable for what has happened, so they don't report it, and just suck up the loss. The ones who have reported in the past, are often left stranded because local police departments are unequipped to handle international, even sometimes interstate investigations. The FBI has set up 2 web sites now, for the investigation and prevention of these crimes. www.ic3.com, and www.lookstogoodtobetrue.com.
For those of you who are new to this, have never been scammed before, or are looking to see if you might be getting scammed, DO NOT CASH ANY CHECKS, DO NOT WIRE ANY MONEY TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON, DO NOT LET A STRANGER INTO YOUR HOME OR YOUr LIFE. CHECK UP ON EVERYTHING.
For those of you who have dealt with, or are dealing with this, through part of my investigation, the name Zerry Mccolumn has come up several times. I know Dr. Watson has used him, as well as a man named James Owolabi. It is starting to look like all of these people really ARE Zerry Mccolumn. He is probably a middle man, who collects the money, and takes his cut, and then sends the remainder off to nigeria, probably to family memebrs working the scam on that end. If I had to guess, there are a dozen, so called Zerry Mccolumns. I have however, found one, in the Byron Georgia White Pages. The name, and the location, correspond to several scams I have encounterd, making contact with this individual for questioning a possibility. More investigation needs to be done at this time, so don't just go find him and beat him up just yet. If you have been scammed, report it. Pass this info on to anyone you know may be at risk. This should include your parents and grandparents. The older people fall for this stuff all the time, especially the bit about how their nephew Johnny was arrested in Canada for DWI while on a fishing trip, and he needs a few thousand dollars for lawyer fees, and the charges to be dropped.

I hated this kind fraud, so please post this e-mail on the blog for warning.
Fredray75@gmail.com responded for 2 items I have listed in San Antonio. Same exact email as previously reported here.
I got an email from "Vanyard Halmitton" again and received a fraud check amount $6,900 more than the deal amount $3,600. He want me return $100 to "shipper", it's a very clear scammer, his email is as the below,
Hi,
How are you doing today? As i told you earlier that i gave the information to my secretary to send you the payment and according to her the payment had been sent to you,the payment will be delivered to you tomorrow via United Parcel Service( Tracking # J 224 367 584 9 ). But there was a little problem which i guess we can handle with trust and understanding.......There was a misinterpretation while sending the payment.According to the instruction i gave my secretary, she was suppose to send your payment and another payment to the mover who will pick up the item and also. But in the process she made a mistake by sending along the mover's fund with yours.making a total of $6,900. she claimed i said she should send the mover's payment together with yours. But I'm sure i told him to send just your payment and another payment for the mover, but i guess he i misunderstood me.It's was an awful mistake and the
payment had already been posted to you, that should not disturb our transaction.i suggest we find a solution to awful mistake by cashing the payment from the bank and deduct your own money .then forward the extra money directly to my mover via western union money transfer. Please i am very sorry for this inconvenience I'm giving you,you can deduct an extra $100 dollars for all the stress i might have put you through in this transaction.please the remaining money to the mover in cash via western union money transfer as soon as you get the payment,so as to come for the pick up of the Used Kawai Upright Piano immediately.
Actually it was my intention to collect the money from my secretary and send it to the mover for some outstanding payment that he is currently being owed by me from the other items he has transported for me into the new apartment,e.g my sons car and other items he had transported into the new house, because the excess fund included in the payment coming to you is not just for the pick up of Used Kawai Upright Piano , that i am buying from you but there are some outstanding payment that the mover is currently being owed by me and i have promised to send it to him, before my secretary made her stupid mistake by including it to your fund. And since it's now coming to you,i guess i can count on you that you can handle this with trust and understanding.please have it sent to the mover in cash via western union money transfer, you can deduct an extra $100 dollars as a token for all the stress i might have put you during this transaction, all money
transfer charges should be deduct from the money you are to send to the mover.
here is what to do,deduct $100 for the troubles and your money and send the balance to the shipper at any Western Union outlets in your location. The shipper is due in your location as soon as the money is received. Here is the shipper information.......
Receivers Name : Antonio I Seville
Address : 875 North Route2
City : Agat
State : Guam
Zipcode : 96928
Country : USA
Afterward i will require the following info from you............
1. The name and address of the sender.........????
2. The amount sent. (After deducting the transfer Charges).........????
3. Western Union Money Transfer Control Number.........????
Please deduct the transfer charges from the amount you want to send to the shipper .Don t forget to send me the map quest to your location for easy passage to the shipper.kindly get back to me asap
I will await your response asap.
Vanyard
And how dod I do right now? Anybody tell me how to do.
Thanks!
This is the real Zerry McColumn. To begin, I want to apologize to the people that lost any money. I am no scammer. Around May 6, or 7th, my wife's aunt asked me to do her a favor. She asked me to send some money to someone through Western Union. I didn't think nothing of it because I know this woman, she isn't the type to do anything foul. Well I sent the money for her. It was to 2 individuals, Yomi George and David Victor. Both individuals were in Nigeria. I didn't know why she would be sending money to these people but it didn't mean much to me. The next day, she asked me if I wanted to get paid just for receiving and sending Western Union transactions. I told her HELL Yeah!! Like I said she isn't the type of person to steer you wrong so I said yeah. She said that her boss was going to get in contact with me to talk more with me but this boss never did. Well after receiving and sending about 6 of these transactions, I asked her about the owner of the company and she said that she never met him in person. That is when I started investigating the job to see if it was a scam. I asked her for the name of the "Boss" and she told me that his name was Derrick Hanes. so I did a search of Derrick Hanes and it showed a white male with his own textile business. So I did a couple more transactions for them. Oh yeah I was told to take out 5% of each transaction and this was my pay. I asked how was I supposed to do my taxes and she said that he said it was tax free money. So that's when I stopped completely and tried to investigate more. I was ready to tell my friends about this new job that I had found!! Well my wife's aunt came over and said that Derrick wanted me to send some more transactions and he wanted to know if he could talk to me. I told her cool I have been waiting to talk to him since I started. Well I do music so I googled my name and the first thing I saw was Craigslist Scam Alert with my damn name in it!!!! Not only that I found out that Derick Hanes was on it as well!! I had been spelling his name wrong the whole time!! I wanted to kill this muthfucka but I didn't know where to find him. That night I was called by my wife's aunt and told that Derick was ferious with me and that he needed to talk to me because he had transactions in my name that he needed sent. I gave him my Yahoo so that he could instant message me. He finally got in contact with me and he asked me what was the problem. I told him about the blog and he just denied all of it. i asked him several questions about his company and he could not provide me with any information. i told him that I was going to contact the police and that's when he told me that he wasn't going to let me destroy him and that I was going to die. I am from the hood people and I ain't no bitch. I pretty much swapped words back and forth with this guy. He hasn't contacted me or my wife's aunt since. You can look on Myspace.com/bibbcontibutta, I am a Rap Artist. I DON'T DO SCAMS!!!! And if you want to get at me feel free to do so ZMCCOLUMN@HOTMAIL.COM. I am more than happy to help anyone catch this bitch. But if you receive anything with my name on it and it is asking for money, IT IS A SCAM!!!! He may have changed it by now but his Yahoo is Derick544@Yahoo.com. Again I apologize!! I really didn't have anything to do with this shit. But because the fool talked all that noise I want to catch him and beat his ass!!

Thank you so much for your post! I was soooooooooo close to falling for this scam! I actually had already written my email reply with my address while I came across your blog.
They are not just doing this with furniture. I listed a $200 Amazon giftcard code at a discount price on Craigslist. I received a reply from "Fred Ray". The first email asked if the item was still available. I replied that it was and his reply was:
I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider that its sold, please do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via certified check .I will need you to provide me the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check
1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check 3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
*** Note that the payment will be shipped to your address via UPS NEXT DAY SERVICE and I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check** Thanks
This was sent from fred75@gmail.com
Yep, it's the exact same email as others have received. I was really confused by the "movers" part, since I was to be emailing the gift card code. I had my reply already written with my address and phone number when I decided to Google "fred75@gmail.com" and was directed here. I don't do much buying and selling on Craigslist, Ebay, and the like. I feel so gullible now, but thank god I found your blog. You guys just saved me $180 that I really really need, I can't thank you enough. I'm definitely going to educate myself about Craigslist before choosing a buyer.
Just experienced " Williams Perron" aka billye105@gmail.com.
He wanted me to send him the following information. 1,Your
full name to be on the Payment.2 ,Your postal address.3,Your phone
number both land and mobile.4,Your postal code.
I did not send it!
His email did not specifically include information about my item. He said he stammered which is why he did not call. However, I had not included my phone number in my ad.
This guy is a real jerk.
Vanyard Hamilton is a scammer! I was selling computer services on Craigslist. We got all the way down to how much I was going to charge and his final email asked me for my information. So before I sent it, I found on here he was a scammer. Tried sending him an email to go away and his email is unregistered now.
This response sounded fishy so I looked it up and it lead me here. Thank for the good work policing the scammers! Following is a copy of said response:
Hello my name is Tony,i am interested in buying your item listed on CL, Please let me know if its still for sale and perhaps in good condition and I await your
response and i will proceed with purchase if its still for sale and in good condition i also want you to know that I will be buying from you so please kindly
withdraw the advert from CL. Please be informed that i will be paying with a certified check from my Bank as i just moved here from Glendale AZ on a job
transfer.I will need the following details to mail the payment later in the day ...
1.Name to be on the payment
2.Home address
3.Cell phone #
I am completely satisfied with the advert and the payment will be delivered within 2-3 working days.** I use a hearing impaired phone # and will receive your
calls via email I await your response and i will proceed with purchase if its still for sale and in good condition
Thanks God bless.
Just received the following comment and it looked scammish. I'm just going to ignore the email, but I want to post it here to let people know that "Dr. Walter" is still active:
from: dr.waltermike01@gmail.com

Due to the fact that its been a long time have been searching for it, Please Kindly get back to me as soon as possible with the necessary answers to the question in mind, Are you the first owner? The present condition? Your final asking price?
I await your urgent response so that we can proceed further..

hi.. well i got a lot of messages from a man called vanyard halmitton. he wants me to clean there home. he even sent me a check for 3,500.00 today and i have it.... what do i do? do you know anything about this... is it a scam!!!????
I posted an ad on craigslist for some furniture and got a responce from Dray Bank with the same honeymoon story. I wish I would have googled the name before trusting him and giving him my address. I am currently looking for homes in Seattle and got caught up in a scam from Africa but before I sent any money I looked into it and realized it was bogus. From the two scammers I e-mailed back and forth I've learned one sure way to identify these people, they try to sound really smart but what they're saying really makes no sence at all and they dont use clear english (leave words out here and there). I wish there was a way to stop these craigslist scams.
The first email I got was from Van Halmitton at van.halm02@gmail.com, less than 12 hours after I posted my computer services ad on Craigslist in the Boston area (maybe everyone should start listing their general location so we could identify the scammers by state?).
Here is the first email I got (note that it was grayish and had two lines above it, indicating it was a sort of signature):
--
Hello,
I was just checking if you will be available for computer repairing
and installations of some applications on 8(Eight) Laptops.
Get back to me for details if you'll be available.
I replied, wanting to know more about the job and got a response from a different email address, court.bed@yahoo.com, with the name of Courtney Beddingfield. Here is the response:
Hello ,
Thanks for the email, well,I am highly impressed in your services,I have some Hp PCs(Intel Pentium IV) since we currently have a major breakdown on most of our systems and I thought it was best to have a general upgrade and maintenance.(I will be providing the software needed).Below are the things needed to be done one on each laptops:
1 Format Hard Drive
2 Install Win Xp with Service Pack 2
3 AVG Virus Software (Free Lifetime Updates)
4 Adobe Acrobat
I will like you to know that my mode of payment is by US certified check mailed and address to you from my employer company since I am presently on a business workshop in Brazil and i want you to know that i will handle the shipment myself since i have a shipper from the state here that will bring the laptops to your place, and will come pick them up as soon as you are done with them.
I should have make this a phone order but i have a network problem of where i am and my shipper will be coming with the necessary Software for the installations of the Computers with both the Service Pack 2 and the Anti-virus for each computers .
However, get back to me with your last asking price for the 8 laptops. I await your urgent response so that i can put the arrangement in order.
Thanks and let me know if you get this email..
Courtney
It sounded like a pretty easy job at first, but then the stuff about shipping, certified check and being in Brazil sort of set off an alarm. Then I realized that the names and email addresses were different. I googled for van halmitton and found this page.
I am a high school student and so would be a probable target for such a scammer, but thankfully I know about this sort of thing. I am also lucky that others are continuing to post names and addresses of these scammers here. Keep it up!
I just posted something on Craigslist and within a few hours received an email from Williamsclark@gmail.com wanting to know if it was still available. When I replied it was, he emailed offering me another $50 to remove the ad and he would send me a check and have a mover pick up the item. I work fraud cases for a living so told him that he could send some one to pick it up with cash, but anything else was unacceptable. Nice try.
I got an e-mail from Dray Bank very shortly after listing a dining room table for sale on Craigslist. It was very similar to the response that Catherine received.
Here's one I just got from Howard Powell:
--
Hi,
I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying it
from you. I would have loved to come and check it myself but I'm on
business to canada. Pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist as i don't
mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item
is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated. I will be
making the payment via a Certified Check, which my secretary will mail
to you. I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of my mover. My
Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has
been cashed. Pls I will need your full name and residential address
along with your phone number to issue out the payment.
Regards.
I hate these kinds of people.

... contact this Email address m_wayltd@yahoo.com
I received a reply to one of my postings from Calvin Cole [calvcole004@gmail.com] that made me unsure at first but I went along for a bit to see what the catch was. The red flags went up on the 3rd email and on the 4th one you can see the scam. The cashier’s check will be fake or stolen so I will be out money, but only after I have given him money and the item.
Hello, Is your item still for sale? i will like to see more picture of it.
Calvin

Made a post this morn and received quick response as Perron and as Baker, now it's Ronald Shoemaker, ablecabled001@gmail.com
Thanks for the info, watch out for this one now.
Same story, posted an item, got a quick response--during the correspondence he used two different emails:
fredray75@gmail.com
rayfnd03@gmail.com
Initial email asked if the item was still available. Next email said:
I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider
that its sold, please do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid
disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via certified
check .I will need you to provide me the following information to
facilitate the mailing of the check
1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
*** Note that the payment will be shipped to your address via UPS NEXT
DAY SERVICE and I will like you to know that you will not be
responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you
have cashed the check** Thanks
When I only gave my name and phone number and asked them to call, the follow-up email said:
I will need you to provide me the following information to facilitate
the mailing of the check
1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
I naively gave my address to them anyway and haven't heard anything from them since.
Has anyone discovered what the scam is? What should i be looking for in my life (accounts compromised? money missing? personal safety?)
Thanks for creating this site!!!

Received today from wgrant100@gmail.com for post to Seattle Craigslist:
Hello ,
Thanks for your quick response, I am quite
satisfied with the condition of the item and price. Am very much interested in buying the
item from you and I would like to make an
outright purchase immediately so I will advise that you withdraw the advert from the web. I don't mind adding $50 for you to do that. I will be paying with a certified bank check.
Furthermore my mover will be coming over
for the pick up as I
might not be available to come for the pick up
myself but am OK with the information from the ad. I will need the following information
details to make payment arrangement done asap.
1,Your full name to be on the Payment.
2,Your mailing address including zip code.
3,Your phone number both land and mobile.
I will be awaiting your response which should
entail these information.
Best Regards
Just as RJ and other's posted...I too received an email from the notorious Fred Raymond using the email address: fredray75@gmail.com.
Though it's already been posted I will post it again since a simple search within Google for his email, pointed me to this blog which confirmed my suspicions.
"Fred" replied to my posting at 12:06 am, almost an hour after I posted the add with the text:
"Is this item still available for sale ?"
I replied with my conditions which constituted a face-to-face meeting in a public location where the equipment (DJ Midi Controller) could be inspected/demo'd and cash on the barrel head.
He replied with his suspicious message which has been already posted here:
"I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider
that its sold, please do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid
disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via certified
check .I will need you to provide me the following information to
facilitate the mailing of the check
1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
*** Note that the payment will be shipped to your address via UPS NEXT
DAY SERVICE and I will like you to know that you will not be
responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you
have cashed the check** Thanks"
I noticed that his choice of words seemed rather strange as well as his request that the ad be removed. It also struck me as strange that he had a "mover" which probably translates into some American sucker he has strung along to mail merchandise to Nigeria for him. I also wasn't comfortable with the idea of someone issuing me a certified check and letting me cash it first without having laid even a finger on the merchandise. (If it sounds to good to be true it probably is - ALWAYS!!!) It just didn't add up. I was just about to propose that he transfer the money via my email address to my Verified Paypal account when something told me to search on his email address.
The rest you know. I do not plan to reply to his request, threaten him or otherwise let him know the jig is up. That way he would just change his email address and keep on scamming. This way at least Google will eventually reindex this blog and capture my reporting as well.
SELLER BEWARE!
fredray75@gmail.com = smooth criminal
I made a music equipment post yesterday. One fool responded with a price so low I laughed, when hours later I got a mail from williamsclark100@gmail.com. The famed williamsclark100@gmail.com! Googled him and found this blog! LOL, here is what he said:
Thanks for the prompt response and i will love to make an instant
purchase,so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist.I dont mind
adding an extra $50 dollars for you to take the advert down from
criagslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item.
I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check, and it
will be an over night payment due to the distance .You dont need to
bother your self with the shippment ok,I will take care of that.So I
will need you to provide me with the following information to
facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name.
2.Your mailing address,be it residential
3..Your phone number.
**Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible

I will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check**

I recently posted an item on Craigslist and got an email that sounded really fishy. I had a bad feeling about it but the person who is actually selling it told me to reply to the email to see what they said. So I did but I didn't use same info for one person, I put three different people info on there (just in case). This is the email I received:

The part that made me uneasy is that he doesn't specify what the item is, He just says sporting good. Then I found the same email on here so I am pretty sure this must be a scam.

what am looking for but I had like to know if it is still available
for sale, so please get back to me as soon as possible.

Hello,
Thanks for the swift response. I am okay with its condition and price
as I’m ready for its purchase. My form of payment will be via Check
and it will be send via UPS, FedEx or USPS 2/3 day delivery. I'll be
responsible for the pick-up and you should note that the pick up money
will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up
company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your
location after the Check has been cashed, as I have other properties
to be moved along with this item. I would have really loved to come
for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible,
but if you have the more pics I will be more than happy to have a good
look. Please do get back to me with your full name and address
including your cell and land number so I can make out the payment as
soon as possible.
Regards,
For all those furniture scam posters - Here's HOW it works:
A friend of mine fell for this scam. He says you get the certified check as promised. You cash the check. Sometimes the scammer will pay "extra" to you and ask you to please pay the movers for him. Either way -this guy's check does not bounce until after he has your furniture. I'm sure he makes most of his money by re-selling your furniture.
Yes. I got the "HONEYMOON" scam too
using this email:

You may have to start consolidating a list of emails soon. Looks to be a lot of response. Thanks for posting all this.
I just got this response to my ad, so he's still at it. I should have realized it was odd because of the time sent. It looks like it was from overseas b/c the inbox said sent 9:37 p.m. (his time?) and the message said 2:37 a.m. (my eastern time?)
Thanks so much for collecting these blogs.

The honeymooning furniture buyer is still out there. I received an email from Dr. Walter, walter.brown31@gmail.com, this week with the same message as people on this blog were getting a year ago.
I don't understand how the scam might work, but I guess I don't need to find out.
I received emails from two gmail addresses trying this same scam, in response to a furniture posting on Craigslist. Here are the email addresses:
collins.johnson9@gmail.com
drnicholasjohnson02@gmail.com
The bogus Dr. Nicholas Johnson sent me an initial email (from the second address above) inquiring if the item was still for sale. Here's the exact text:
"is the item still available for sale??"
I replied to this and got another message about 24hrs later, from the first email address above, with these instructions (which I didn't follow, luckily):
"Hello
I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying it
from you. I would love to come and check it myself but I just got
married and am presently on an honeymoon trip to Hawaii with my wife.
I would love a surprise change of furniture in our home on our return.
Please do withdraw ,with immediate effect, the advert from Web as i
don't mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured
that the item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition
as stated. I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which
my secretary will mail across to you. I'll be picking the item from
you with the aid of my mover. My Mover will be coming for pickup once
the Certified Check has been cashed. Please I will need both your full
name and physical address along with your phone number to issue out
the payment.
I await your urgent response.
Regards.
Dr Johnson"
Thanks for your blog. It confirmed my suspicions about this bogus buyer.
Reposted my couch today, got an email from "mark rigdewell" (markrig0909@gmail.com) with this text:
"is it available ??"
What is it with scammers and bad punctuation/capitalization? I guessed from the lack of specificity and the format of the email address that it might be another scammer. A quick google search confirmed that, so I'm not even bothering to reply to this one.

Thank you for this site! It is very helpful. I had a strange reply to my ad selling an antique piano. I googled the buyer's email address and found this site. I did not actually fall for the scam, but it obviously seems fishy... After posting my piano at around midnight, whichw as a very detailed detailed ad that had 4 pictures, I received an email from "Calvin" whose email address was calv.cole@gmail.com, at 9 am the next day, which said, "Is your Item for sale. can i see more picture of it. Calvin." I thought this seemed strange since it was obviously for sale, but I thought maybe the person was just a poor communicator. I wrote back, "Yes it is for sale for $325. I can send you more pictures. What would you like to see? I can take more close ups tonight, and email them to you." Then "Calvin Cole" wrote back to me and said, "Thanks for the prompt response am quite satisfied with the condition .Am very much interested and i am really okay with the item and i will love to make an instant purchase,so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist and considered it SOLD to me,I will add $30 to the purchase price, for you to hold it for me.I would have loved to come take a look myself but i am a very busy but i'm okay with the item. I will be paying you by money order. It will take 2 -3 days for the payment to get to you, it will be sent via courier service due to the distance. You don't need to bother your self with the shipment okay,i will take careof that,so i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the Money Order, so that I can have my assistant get the money order ready.
1. Full Name to write on the Money Order
2. Address where payment will be sent to not P.O BOX (b'cos my courier service does not deliver to p.o box)
3. City
4. State
5. Zip Code
6. Home or cell Phone Number
Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over for the pick up as soon as you have cashed the Money Order.
Calvin"
This is the exact same post as someone else had from him regarding furniture. I find it hard to believe he wrote us both the exact same email if it was not a scam. FYI, I read that the reason they do this scam is because they will make the money order for the wrong amount and state it was for a different seller and try to get you to wire the excess back to them, and then poof, your money is gone. Thanks for this site!
Looks like they continue to make the rounds this is from our Craigslist Dallas posting and not so surprising, it's Fred Ray...

Do you still have this item available for sale?

Calvin Cole is at it again with a new email. dnltoor697@gmail.com
Do your homework folks & don't get scammed by these web parasites.
When you get an email asking about the item your selling but they don't mention the item in the email, it's an phisher email scam or email address collector. Yes, people also sell bulk email addresses for big bucks. When you respond to an email, they got your email.
Protect yourself!
I got the same scam email so many people have gotten, and I was suspicious though didn't write it off immediately as a scam. Then the next day I got another email with EXACTLY THE SAME SPIEL, word for word. It's clearly either a group of people or he's really off his game. Names were Tommy Hernandez and Dr. Sanders.
Obviously we all hate people who are dishonest and prey on the honest and trusting. This is the fault of Craigslist. It allows anonymous people to post anything at anytime and leave good peoples judgment up in the air. We want to eliminate this and we have created a website in the process. Safelist.com is based on verified identity. No more anonymous people posting things. You must be real and verified. This is the future of online classifieds. Check us out at http://safelist.com.

I post adds on Craiglist and get all these spammers responding back asking if I still have "Title of Add" and if respond back to them I instantly get a Yahoo AutoResponse with the crap about they used to sell on Craigslist but now they found a way to make money online and made $4000 last month. I clicked on their link and it takes you to a bogus CNBC website that says their stuff is great. I did a domain whois search on some of the domains and they have registered the domains with other peoples contact info - telephone and address. I contact CNBC to tell them about this but go no response back. I get about 20 of these responses a day.

Another email for this guy.
It's amazing how deviously creative these spammers are becoming.
The furniture scams have become a dime a dozen, but I've also started to notice scams in the "Free Stuff" category.
One person offered a free HP printer online, when I emailed, they said that the printer was no longer available. Shortly after, they gave me a link to get a "free teeth whitener" as somewhat of a consolation prize. Everything was done with auto-responders but it looked very realistic and well, just plain old kind.
Luckily, I was able to realize that the offer was a hoax.
You can cross check any suspicious post at http://www.searchcraigslistscams.com
it pays to spend two seconds and see if anyone else has encountered the same post!

Thank you for this blog! I received the email from Phil Beecher too, within an hour of my craigslist furniture post... he's still on his honeymoon in Hawaii, still ready to schedule his mover to pick up a lovely cherry twin bed from my home. Not going to happen! Thanks again for your service to the craigslist community.
Hello: What exactly is the scam? They send a bogus bank check? They have your address to try to rob you? Identity theft? I see post after post of similiarly forateed requests form the scamers but no reason as to why they would be doing this unless they were doing the paying you too much and asking for reimbursement. I too have been written to by every-honeymooning Phil Beecher.
Thank you

I am searching for a job on Craigslist and I replied to an advertised job for Home Depot. I got a totally unrelated email. The email replied as if I were interested in renting an apartment. It was long and instructed me to fill out a credit report online so I can schedule an appointment to rent an apartment.
@Deadre called me from 770-617-7578. I saw a posting on craigslist that said she had purchased 16,000$ worth of furniture but had to move out of town and was ready to sell all of it for $7700. Said she already was out of town, stored all the furniture in a storage unit nearby and that I can come take a look at it there. I was initially skeptical since no matter where you travel within the country, it should not cost u around 8,500$ (16000 - 7700) to move furniture. Googled the number only to find many "marked as scam" posts on craigslist posted at different times, some almost a year back and some in diff cities too...
Here's what I got from fredray143@gmail.com. I still don't get what they hope to accomplish with this...

I would love to come and check it myself but I just got married and am presently on an honeymoon trip to Hawaii with my wife. I would love a surprise change of furniture in our home on our return. Please do withdraw ,with immediate effect, the advert from Web as i don`t mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item is held for me. Watch out for brendacoo14 or brenda coleman I just receved these scam responces to furniture I posted on craigs list two days ago:
Hello,
I’m really interested in purchasing your listed furniture . let me know how much your last price is and if possible the reason you're selling it, i will like to purchase it. When can i come to check it?, Kindly get back to me if you still have the item. I'm speech disabled though,You can just reply this email, I'm aways with my computer. thanks write back.
Thanks for writing back...but I'm sorry I won't be able to come see it anymore, embarking on a 3 month business trip to New York tomorrow morning,I was gonna be coming to your town and that got changed at the end minute but I still want it anyway, getting it for my niece cause she is moving to her new apartment. If you could sell it to me when I get to New York I will mail you a certified bank check to cover the cost and also add funds to cover the shipping to where it will be needed. I'll arrange for a shipper/mover to handle the pick up and delivery so it doesn't stress you. I really need this, quite important and urgent. I will be more than glad if it can be sold to me. Email me back with a name, address and your phone number for the check, write back soon and sorry for the delay in reply, Thank you.

Hi,
This is all you need to do:
1)Visit your nearest Western Union Agent location.(http://www.westernunion.com/info/agentLocatorLookup.asp)
2)Provide payment to the clerk in cash - including the amount to be sent and appropriate fee
3)Get the receipt that includes your Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN)
4)E_mail me western union's details to craigslist (craigslist.center@email.com) to verify the payment
Also is my request OK with you?"I will ship the tickets as a gift for speedy shipping and to avoid custom & additional taxes, when you make the payment , tell them the same ...that these money are a gift for a friend".
Thanks
I got the same response as Kimberly, to some furniture I posted on Craigslist.
Email from corllelag@aol.com. No mame given.

WARNING!!! After posting to sell furniture post on Craigs list, I got reply from "Mark Joe" promising certified check due to "distance" and shipping. The writing and grammar was poor. When I asked about it, I got an odd terse reply. I googled and found this blog warning me it was a scam. THANK YOU !!!
The next time a scammer wants your name, address, and phone number, reply to them with THIS:
FBI Denver
Federal Office Building, Room 1823
1961 Stout Street, 18th. Floor
Denver, Colorado
80294-1823
The phone number is (303) 629-7171.
I got the same email as Melissa, and I let my mom handle it since I didn't know how to sell online. I just got a check from the person, and it is obviously fake since it is a ridiculous amount of money. I'm going to the bank that issued it and talking to them about recieving the fake check. It just sucks that my address and name is out there. Yippee.
Ugh and now I look like a scammer because aol won't put my name. Yay.

State- Imo State
Zipcode-23483,
Country- Nigeria
Same scam...different players here.
I received an email from "Shannon Kend" regarding furniture I had listed on craigslist. The story was slightly different that most on here but the jist was pretty much the same including the bad grammar and noticeably vague commentary.
Ended up finally getting three postal money orders totaling $2,985 from a "Dave Clinton" living in Merced, CA. Funny thing is, the money orders were shipped from an address in Canton, CT. from a "Peter D Berk". Kind of suspicious to get money orders from CT, that originated in CA. Even stranger is that the USPS Express Mail envelope the money orders came in originated in VA according to the tracking number...and the shipper I was to use is in Kansas. So, I'm dealing with four states here and I still don't know where "Shannon" (the original contact)lives.
Anyway, long story short is that the Post Office confirmed this morning that the USPS money orders I received were fake. The Postal Inspectors have the money orders and assure me that they will eventually catch up with Shannon and his/her bunch of thieves.
I felt compelled to post this because none of the names in my little adventure have shown up here before. Maybe the old gang has re-invented themselves or there is a new band of thieves running this scam. Regardless the info needs to be out there so that others can protect themselves.
I'm selling a camera on craigslist in Atlanta. I received a response from Jason Russell, bobogass@gmail.com, asking if the camera had a scratch. Then I got an email from him from, spankeydon@yahoo.com, and he said -
"I'm getting it for my son's birthday but i am in the army and currently in the field, i wouldn't be able to make this transaction in person. I want the item sent to him as a gift. Send me paypal money request to this mail box for the payment now. I'm paying a total sum of $425 for item cost & shipping fee and I will provide you with his shipping info for shipment as soon as the payment is done."
I almost fell for it.
Thanks!
He's still out there...
Daniel Deitrick is the so-called name,I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying the entertainment center from you. I would love to come and check it myself but I just got married and am presently on an honeymoon trip to Hawaii with my wife. I would love a surprise change of items in our home on our return. Pls do withdraw , the listing from Web as i don't mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated. I await your response.
Thank You,
Daniel.
I need you to be sure I am still very much interested in buying this entertainment center from you and your check has since been sent out. When I contacted the courier service on why you haven't recieved the check payment, I was made to know that there was an adverse weather condition while shipping the payment to its destination but everything is under control now and its now on its way to your location again. I do assure you that you will recieve the check soonest and as soon as you recieve, I believe you know what next step to take, Email me that you recieved the check and so I can forward my movers information to you where to send the excess money to, after cashing the check that same day so my mover can come for the pickup almost immediately upon recieivng the funds.
Thanks and do have a nice day ahead of you.
My Warmest Regards,
Daniel.
Look out for James Conrad with email of smd.camus@gmail.com! I was trying to sell furniture and the first email was from his was ok. The second had the same bait message almost everyone else gets. Same old thing. "I want to buy it, take it off for me, I will send a check and movers." I knew it did not sound right at all. Googled the message and found out the truth. This is a great blog!

I have been contacted twice within the same day by several different scammers who wanted to purchase a moped from me on Craigslist. IP addresses showed all of them to be out of the country and also listed on scam blacklisted sites. All wanted to pay via PayPal, then in subsequent messages "forgot" to mention about a small matter of the middleman who requires his fee prior to receipt of the item. They both wanted me to send money via Western Union to this person after I received money from them into my account. emails used: soyuxsirius3@gmail.com; jscorie04@gmail.com; sweetesttime1570@gmail.com. Seems like every "gmail" email is from a scammer! Hope this helps someone else.
Just received this today:
From David Smith:
Hello,
i really appreciate your response to my email about the availablity of the item. i want you to consider it sold to me as am highly interested. Actually, i dont have much time but you dont need to bother yourself about th pickup and the shipment, I'll take care of that by engaging the services of a delivery agent. Hence i'll be sending a certified cashiers check as the form of the payment and it will be delivered to you Asap, so i'll need you to provide me with the following information to faciliate the mailing of the check.
Its a scam>>>>
i bought an iphone 4s supposedly unlocked from a guy named carlos diaz whose number is 619 888 3919 and email is carlosdiaz4002@yahoo.com
phone turned out to be locked. stay away from him
I also got an email from smd.camus@gmail.com n response to an ad I placed selling specialized infant formula. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this blog. I can't believe how many scammers there are out there. It's terrible.
I had the same experience. I replied back and then thought of googeling his email address as I noticed it did not match the name on the account. Has anyone experienced or heard that he uses the emails of people who replied to him in other scams? Should I be worried?
walltmike@gmail.com is a scammer. He is one of the ones who wants your PayPal info so he can pay you and have his "private movers" come pick up your item (a boat in my case) with "no inspection needed".
First, thank you for the blog! The response I got to my craigslist post was weird enough to make me look the guy up and thanks to your blog I am aware this is some sort of scam.
The first email I received asking if the item was still available was from Williams Erick and then after I responded yes I received the following from Fred R. Michael :
I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider
that its sold, please do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid

I just received a reply to my Craigslist ad that I have posted under Artists. The reply was from smd.camus@gmail.com (As I see that that email is on here a couple of times) and their rely was "Are you still looking for cleaning position". WTF, my ad was advertising my artwork. REPORTED TO GMAIL FOR SPAM!!!

I found this blog after googling jscorie04@gmail.com address. I knew it was scam but I always have a habit of googling emails that contact me via craigs. I never seen this scam before but I never posted much. I have a car up for sale and I have gotten about 15 of these scam emails in the last week. I don't know if they are behind the same person but they all involve the middle-man scam and they all have different emails, mostly gmail accounts.
Email from corllelag@aol.com
No name given.
I got an email from the same person mentioned in another post. I am going to flag it as a scam because it has been mentioned previously. Thanks for posting - saved me time!

(I wrote back telling him I could take pictures later that day and he didn't seem to care anymore. His response below)
I fully understand the condition of what i am buying. Am currently Out of state for a Business trip as of now and i want to hand over this transaction to PayPal and a verified shipping company that will come for the pick and
have the it inspected. Once payment is made the company agent can come for the necessary information and have all papers of transfer signed.. Await your verified PayPal email address so i can effect the payment into your
account.
(I wrote back suggesting we use a differnet form of payment and possibly meet when he returns. His reply below)
I understand how you feel but i am an engineer and i work on the sea
i am not available to pay you with cash i will make the full payment
to your paypal account once the money as been received and confirmed
by paypal then the pick up agent will come for the pick up of the 2000 Dodge Dakota 2X4 Quad Cab i will would have love to give the money to the pick up agent but the only way they accept money is via Moneygram Money Transfer and there is no Moneygram office here on the sea so i will like you to get back to me with your registered and verified paypal email address so that i can make the payment asap
Awaiting your mail soon
Thanks

This falls under Affiliate Scams which unfortunately I believe include the Affiliate.
Any job listing for PKP Property Management is a scam to get you to enroll for a trial offer for of all things an identity theft company called Privacyguard webaddress http://www.privacyguard.com.
I reported the misleading ruse to this company and wanted to provide them with the information for investigative purposes and they weren't the least bit concerned. I kept getting handed up to supervisors through the chain until I was placed in the OOP's voicemail and still two days later have not been called back.
They did immediately cancel the membership for me but didn't care beyond that.
I am hoping that posting on this site will help others avoid this scam.
It all started when I answered this job ad under Boisecraigslist.com Jobs/General Labor/PostingID: 3156988452 Condo Upkeep Personnel (Boise).
corllelag@aol.com is a scammer for sure just hoping for reply to get your email address. Resist the temptation. Report the user(s) to AOL.

We also got a scam email from S. Amus smd.camus@gmail.com saying he was sending certified check and would send movers to get the item advertised on Craigslist. Luckily we did not fall for the scam but others might, so we're posting this as a warning!

You can add the name Jonah Carnell to the list -he is asking to purchase a piece of my furniture for 30$ more and gave me the spiel about the movers/pickers. Did not give him my home address to mail the check and asked for the name and phone number of the moving company. I filed a report with the FBI Internet Fraud site.
